Wright AIA “The Value of Investing in Pre-Planning Studies: Robinson Hall” In preparation for a recent Capital submission, George Mason University completed a 12-week pre-planning study for the renovation of Robinson Hall, a 1970’s academic instruction and administrative building. Via this case study, learn how pre-planning studies can challenge preconceived notions about project scope, schedule and budget and serve as invaluable tools for more accurately preparing for submitting budget and authority requests and for addressing potential issues in advance of critical design and construction schedule deadlines. April 23 2012:Tradeline: 2012 International Conference on Research Facilities Scottsdale, AZ Evan Weremeychik AIA, LEED AP “The New Project Planning Toolset for Moving Research Targets” To provide a scientific workplace responsive to increasing research velocity and direction change, new project development and execution processes are required that deliver the environments scientists need--when they need it. Session will utilize a combination of research forecasting tools, advanced building technology, and flexible building support systems that mitigate the risk of building the wrong laboratory. As an example, Weill Cornell Medical College will illustrate designs that inspire interdisciplinary collaboration, support fluid thinking, and quickly adapt to the evolution of research. May 8, 2012:Aging Services of California: 2012 Exposition Palm Springs, CA Leslie Moldow FAIA, LEED AP “California Introduces the Household Skilled Nursing Facility Model” This seminar looks at the Household model of Skilled Nursing Facilities. California is joining the majority of states in this country that allow this household model to be built. Many individuals and entities have contributed to the new regulations, which will be enforced by mid-2012, that allow environments for supporting person-centered care for frail elders.
